Maldives Immigration, on Monday, apprehended a 40-year-old man attempting to enter the Maldives with a forged passport through Velana International Airport (VIA).
Immigration is yet to reveal the nationality of the individual.
Following Immigration’s crackdown on undocumented and migrant workers, many have attempted identity theft to enter the Maldives.
Throughout 2019, Immigration officials arrested various impersonators who tried to enter the country by using lookalikes’ passports.
An immigrant was also arrested in October 2019, while attempting to smuggle forged visa cards.
