Humpback whale spotted near Male’ City

A humpback whale has been spotted swimming near Male’ City.

The whale was captured on a 10-second video which shows it coming up for air in the waters between Male’ City and Vilimale’.

Humpback whales begin their annual migratory route to their winter breeding and calving grounds in the warmer tropical waters of the Pacific in late autumn.

The whale captured on video near Male’ City is a young humpback whale measuring approximately 10 feet.

Video of the whale has gone viral on social media.

Fully grown humpback whales grow up to 16 meters and can weigh up to 30 metric tons.

Whales are not a usual sight in Maldivian waters. However, dead whales have been known to wash up in Maldivian islands from time to time.
