Hot contenders GMIZL & MPL survived after penalty shootout

Defending champions Greater Male Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZL) and three times champion, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), progressed to the Quarterfinal on penalties.

Maldivian was keen to consider the lessons they learned in the final last year but was unlucky to lose on penalties against the defending champions, GMIZL, after a goalless draw.

Hamza Mohamed (Hampu) scored from the spot for Maldivian, whereas GMIZL goalkeeper Ismail Faathih (Thaadey) saved Mohamed Ajfan’s penalty. The result was decided when Afual Abdul Hameed’s (Waalu) penalty was denied by the crossbar. GMIZL advanced to Quarterfinal by winning 2-1 on penalties.

The clash between Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ali Shifau (Rona) scored for MPL in the 14th minute of the match, after receiving a Sinan Ibrahim Rasheed (Bagey). DSC equalized from a powerful effort by Mohamed Rasheed, halfway through the MPL half in the 30th minute of the match.
