Team HDC sets a new benchmark as they beat Stelco RC 3-1, to reach to the Quarter Final of Club Maldives Cup for the first time in their history.
Both teams were hungry for an early goal, as scoring chances were created at both ends one after the other.
The opening goal of the match came from HDC. After gaining possession from a Stelco attack, Abdulla Shaafiu (Shaappe) was hurry to rush forward from the right flank to receive a high the ball from the left. His initial tap-in to the goal was denied by the crossbar. However, he collected the fallen ball running across the goal to strike with a round turn.
Ali Maais (Mattu) remained a constant threat to the goal of HDC. On the other hand, Ibrahim Mubeen Ahmed Rasheed (Mukki) played a vital role in the HDC attacks.
In the second half, Shaappe’s free header and his one on one chance were denied by the goalkeeper, Ibrahim Zameer (Ibu). Ibu also denied Mukki a while later, when he came dribbling past three of Stelco’s players.
Equalizer for Stelco came from Ali Navaz (Navattey) in a counter attack.
However, HDC responded well just after two minutes, with a sensational long-range effort. Mohamed Sujan Ahmed fired the ball with massive power, roughly from the half-way of Stelco’s half, which went to the top-right corner of the goal.
Ayaz Ahmed (Ayaa) then got a wonderful chance to equalize for Stelco RC, when he went one on one with the keeper following a miss pass by Sujan. However, his strike went far from the goal.
Three minutes from the HDC’s second goal, Mukki sealed the win in the 39th minute of the match to put their foot firmly in the Quarter Final.
HDC will face Allied in the Quarter Final of the Club Maldives Cup 2018.
