Govt spent MVR1.7 billion on reclamation projects: housing minister

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Muizzu proclaimed at Parliament on Wednesday that President Abdulla Yameen’s administration has spent MVR 1.7 billion on land reclamation projects of 12 islands.

Noting that a total of 360 hectares of land have been reclaimed, he said that the amount also includes revetment projects of the islands as well.

Answering a question posed by the Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party, Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz, regarding an update of Hirilandhoo land reclamation project, Minister Muizzu replied that it has been decided that the project will not be continued this year. However, he assured that President Yameen would fulfil his promises to the people.

“We will not be able to conduct a project that is not included in this year’s budget,” explained Minister Muizzu.
