A free motorcycle parking area for airport staff has been inaugurated at the Velana International Airport.

The free parking area established by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) can accommodate up to 700 motorcycles at once.

At the inauguration this Monday morning, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula said it was her pleasure to announce staff at the airport will no longer have to pay the MVR 10 per hour fee to park their motorcycles.

Airport staff previously did not have a parking area designated to them but had to use the general parking area designed for visitors.

It meant a staff on an eight-hour shift needed to spend at least MVR 80 on parking each day.

The current administration has 15 First 100-Day Pledges dedicated to the transport sector. Five out of the 15 pledges have now been completed.
