Foreign Minster officially opens Embassy of Maldives in Thailand

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday officially opened the Maldivian Embassy in Thailand.

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Embassy to mark the occasion.

According to the statement released by the Foreign Ministry, the Embassy will contribute to implementing Maldives’ foreign policy and assist with the provision of consular services to the growing Maldivian diaspora in Thailand.

The Embassy will also facilitate exploring avenues for greater cooperation between the two countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Further, the Ministry stated that establishing a resident diplomatic presence reflects the deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony Minister Shahid highlighted that cooperation between Maldives and Thailand is growing in multiple avenues with massive potential, including trade and investment, science and technology, defence and security, education, culture and tourism.

Additionally, the official website of the Maldives Embassy in Thailand was launched during the ceremony.

The opening of the Embassy is in line with this administration’s commitment to forging closer ties with the international community.

The event was attended by Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Embassy staff.

Minister Shahid arrived in Thailand on October 15 on the invitation of his counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Pramudwinai.
