Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, serving a lengthy prison sentence, has been allowed a family visit after two months.

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) allowed four members of Adeeb’s family to meet him on Saturday. Adeeb’s wife Maryam Nashwa along with his mother and two other family members went on the visit.

Nashwa had earlier sent a letter to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, stating that the family had been denied of visits to the former vice president after his cell shuffle, on February 20, to Maafushi prison.

Although Adeeb had been denied family visits, he has been meeting with his lawyers occasionally.

The former VP’s family claim that Adheeb has an internal cyst, kidney stones and has also been diagnosed with “glaucoma”.

Adheeb is sentenced to jail for 33 years over his involvement in the biggest corruption scandal in the country and orchestrating an assassination attempt on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
