Former President Maumoon went abroad on March 8 with his wife Nasreena Ibrahim to visit the latter’s younger sister, Fareesha Ibrahim, who was receiving medical treatment in Singapore. After she passed away May 31, rumours began to circulate that Maumoon would not return for fear of being arrested.

Countering the comments, former President Maumoon has responded that he only fears Allah and no one else.

Noting that the thought of fleeing had never crossed his mind, he stated that there would not be any reason for him to be arrested upon arrival.

Due to the disputes between Former President Maumoon and his half-brother, incumbent President Abdulla, Yameen the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has also been divided into two factions.
