Former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim and leader of religiously conservative Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdulla were shifted back to jail Friday after being kept under house arrest for the month of Ramadan.

The officers of Maldives Correctional Service escorted Nazim to back to prison Friday afternoon shortly followed by Sheikh Imran.

Nazim is sentenced to 11 years in prison after he was convicted of weapons possession over a hand gun found in his residence. It is noteworthy that he was taken back to jail at a time where former jailed Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has submitted a letter to Supreme Court stating that Nazim has no connection with the pistol found at his residence.

Meanwhile, the High Court upheld the decision of the Criminal Court to issue a 11-year sentence to Nazim while the Supreme Court did not accept the appeal submitted by the former defence minister.
