Ex-Islamic minister resigns from opposition Adhaalath Party

Former Minister of Islamic Affairs and the current Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has resigned from the religiously conservative Adhaalath Party.

According to sources, Shaheem requested to resign from the party on February 14. following his request, Adhaalath is now seeking to remove Shaheem’s name from the party register at the Elections Commission.

Shaheem posted on his Facebook that he had decided to resign after a year of disagreements with the opposition party.
