Maldives Police Service has granted promotions to several officers, including Superintendent of Police Mohamed Jamsheed who has been once again raised to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Jamsheed had been demoted from ACP to superintendent last year October by the police’s Disciplinary Board, which had also decided to send him to southernmost Addu Atoll as a project officer. However, Jamsheed had protested against the decision.
Mihaaru understands that Jamsheed was promoted again to the rank of ACP on Thursday. He is also the head of the police’s Intelligence Department.
Other promotions included raising the former deputy head of Intelligence Department, Ahmed Abdul Rahman, to the rank of ACP while seven officers have been promoted from superintendent to chief superintendent. These officers are police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan, Mohamed Dawood, Ahmed Shameem, Ahmed Asim, Mohamed Rasheed, Moosa Ali and Hussain Rasheed.
Following the unprecedented ruling of the Supreme Court on February 1 to free nine high profile, political prisoners, major changes have been brought about to Police posts. Notably, Ahmed Areef had been sacked as Commissioner of Police, before his successor, Ahmed Saudee, was axed as well.
The former commander of Special Operations, Ibrahim Didi, was also terminated last week.
The current acting chief of the force is Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz.
