Some members of the European Union (EU) on Monday called on the union to hold discussions with the Maldives to help bring about the necessary reforms and overcome the challenges facing democratic principles in the island nation.
Speaking at the EU’s Foreign Committee meeting in Brussels regarding the current situation of the Maldives, some members stressed that the archipelago will face challenges in the process of developing democracy and, hence, the EU can provide support at the time.
Stressing that the Maldives is ready to work on the advice given on reforming the judiciary, members noted that it is of utmost importance to send special advisers on various sectors to the Maldives in the near future.
