EU delegates meet Maldives’ opposition

The European Union (EU)’s delegation currently in the Maldives met with the opposition on Monday night.

The representatives of opposition parties that attended the meeting held at Hotel Jen in capital Male were Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s chairperson Hassan Latheef , former chairperson and lawmaker of MDP Mariya Ahmed Didi, Jumhoory Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim, deputy leader of JP Abdulla Riyaz, representative of Adhaalath Party Shidhatha Shareef , lawmaker son of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, Faaris Maumoon and lawmaker Mohamed Waheed brahim who represented Maumoon’s faction of the divided ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The delegation of EU includes envoys from Germany, Italy and Sweden.

The discussions mainly focused on concerns regarding the political situation of the country, the upcoming Presidential Elections in 2018 and issues related to tourism.
