The Elections Commission broke the security seals of 26 of the ballot boxes used in the Local Council Election last Saturday to check the ballots for errors and spoilt votes.

This EC announced Thursday afternoon that they will also recount the votes to confirm the results sheets, which began 3:00 p.m. at the Local Council Election’s main centre established at the former Jamaluddin School building in capital Male.

In the meantime, the commission is announcing the temporary results of the election as vote counting continues. The results released so far shows that the opposition is leading the polls with main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) winning the super majority of all three main City Councils. The EC has still released the results for all constituencies.
