Elections Commission has said that over 1,800 re-registration forms have been submitted by the Maldives Correctional Service for the Presidential Election on 23 September.
Spokesperson and Member of the Commission, Ahmed Akram, told Sun Media that the processing of the forms from the Correctional Service is still ongoing and would take some time. He assured that all valid forms will be accepted and re-registered.
Talking to the press today, Akram said that 86,000 re-registration forms have been submitted by 12 a.m. last night and the Commission is expecting the number to reach 95,000. He said that 30,000 forms have been submitted in the past two to three days.
Akram said that the re-registration for this election is almost double compared to the previous elections because the voting population has grown as well. And with it, the number of Maldivians living abroad has increased as well.
