Minister of Communication Science and Technology Mr Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal stated that internet is relatively expensive in the Maldives and that discussions are being held to reduce the prices.
The minister mentioned that they have begun discussions with the two main operators in Maldives namely Ooredoo and Dhiraagu to exchange views about the possibilities in reducing the prices of the internet.
The minister also expressed that since all sectors in the Maldives rely on the internet, it is a necessity for the prices to drop to an affordable value in order for a boost in development. He added that if the two operators do not bring about a reduction in prices, a third operator can be an option as well.
