Customs makes a late comeback to march on the semi

Customs Recreation Club came from a goal behind to beat Ooredoo by 2-1, to march on to the semi-finals with one game on hand.

A left foot strike by Josephine Borja Luto (Josephine) took the lead for Ooredoo in the 23rd minute of the match. She also threatened Custom’s goal with powerful shots on numerous occasions.

Two minutes later, Customs was awarded a penalty for a foul committed in the goal area. However, the experienced goalkeeper Ishrath Hameed (Nasi) saved it to keep them alive in the tournament.

Customs equalized two minutes to the final whistle from another penalty kick, this time by Yasmin Abdulla (Jesto), who made no mistake to convert it.

The historic goal for Customs was scored by Aminath Nazra in the last minute of the match to welcome the semi-finals in the most dramatic style.

This result also took Police Club to the semi-final as Ooredoo failed to notch a point from two matches of the second round.

On the other match of the night, the robust MPL was held by Wamco by 1-1.

Wamco took the lead early in the match, with a halfway effort from Fathimath Afza (Goyye) which went through the hands of MPL’s Iranian goalkeeper Azam Akhondi.

The solid defensing of Wamco was wrecked in the 2nd minute of the second half as a result of the continuous pressure from MPL’s dangerous attacks. Fathimath Saliya scored the equalizer for MPL.

The group’s winner and runner-up will be decided after the final match of the group on Saturday.
