National Operations Emergency Centre on Thursday evening, announced that the country’s ninth patient had recovered from COVID-19.
During the nationally broadcasted press conference, Internal Specialist Dr Mohamed Ali noted that a patient undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) had recovered.
The doctor also criticized the public for inadequate observation of best practices in hygiene and social distancing.
Currently, 18 people are placed in isolation facilities, while 737 are in quarantine facilities. As a preventative measure, Health Protection Agency (HPA) mandated that all inbound passengers, with exception to tourists checking in to resorts, will be placed under observation at a designated facility for a period of 14 days.
The Maldives now has 13 confirmed and five active cases of COVID-19, with nine recoveries. So far, only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections in the Maldives with no record of local transmissions within the country. The first Maldivian tested positive for the virus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 480,000 and claimed over 22,000 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 117,000 have recovered.
