The High Court has decided to commence the appeal trial of the lower court’s order to remand Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon on Thursday.

Following his arrest for allegedly bribing lawmakers to gather support for the opposition lobbied motion of no confidence against the parliament speaker, the Criminal Court had ordered to keep MP Faris under custody until the end of his trial. Faris is appealing both the arrest and remand orders.

His lawyer Maumoon Hameed confirmed that the High Court will begin the appeal hearings early Thursday.

Meanwhile, MP Faris is also undergoing a trial at the Criminal Court for identity theft over misusing the flag and logo of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
