The Criminal Court has delayed Thursday’s hearing of Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon’s identity theft trial to next week Thursday.

The court stated that it decided to put off the hearing regarding the lawmaker’s misuse of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s flag and logo for a week in order to completethe administrative work of some documents related to the case.

The hearing scheduled for this Thursday was for the prosecution and defence to make their submissions prior to the commencement of official hearings. The Criminal Court had decided to proceed with the trial during the preliminary hearings as per the Criminal Procedure Act.

MP Faris’ legal team has requested the Criminal Court to put the trial on hold, claiming that lawyers have not received enough time and resources to prepare the defence. It remains unclear whether the court has accepted the request or not.
