The Criminal Court cancelled the trial of the murder of a local man in Haa Alif atoll Ihavandhoo island which was scheduled for Thursday.
Three expatriate workers are being charged with the murder of Ismail Umar, 54, who was found killed with multiple wounds on June 16 inside Ihavandhoo’s ice plant where he had worked as a mechanic and the in-charge.
The court had initially planned to hold the hearing of the prime suspect, a Bangladeshi national named Sumon Miah, on Thursday.
The Criminal Court did not cite a reason for cancelling Thursday’s hearing or announce another date.
Sumon Miah had worked at the ice plant with Ismail Umar. Police have revealed that Miah confessed to the crime shortly after his arrest.
