The Criminal Court on Tuesday added five days to the remand of Jumhoory Party’s activist, Ahmed Shafiu, who is arrested under accusations of attempting to bribe lawmakers.

Mihaaru understands that Shafiu, of Laamu Atoll Fonadhoo island, was arrested late Monday near Jumhoory Party’s main hub after an opposition rally.

According to Jumhoory Party, Police requested to add 15 days to Shafiu’s remand. However, the court decided on five.

Meanwhile, Police also claim to have evidence of Faris Maumoon, the lawmaker son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, bribing lawmakers to gather support for the recently submitted motion of no confidence against the parliament speaker.
