Club Maldives begins with classic footballing memories

The famous soccer quote, “Form is Temporary – Class is Permanent” was indeed proven by the veteran players who showed their technical ability years after retiring from professional football.

The opening ceremony of the fourteenth edition of Club Maldives Cup and tenth edition of 18/30 Women’s Futsal Fiesta was begun with a special match between a team of Vice President and Maldivian legendary footballing icons.

In the opening remarks by Vice President, His Excellency Faisal Naseem, reflected much on the motto of this year’s tournaments, “Magumatheege Rakkaatherikan – Enmenge Zinmaaeh”. Speaking on that regard, Vice President said that everyone should be well aware that there will be the people who walk on the roads and there will be the people who drive on the roads. Therefore, everyone shall respect each other on following the general norms to prevent the dangerous incidents. He also highlighted the effort by Club Maldives for continuously organizing such a big event and providing a competitive environment for youth.

The address by the Youth Minister Ali Waheed after the speech of Vice President was initially highlighted on the fact that tournament is held at Hulhumale this year, away from Male’ for the first time in the fourteen years long history of the tournament. He further added that more changes are being expected from Club Maldives, along with the decentralization of the country. Minister reflected on the road safety before concluding the speech, by strongly urging to focus on the safety of others while using roads and highways.

The main event of the opening ceremony was the special match, which was played after the jersey unveiling of all the teams competing in the tournament. When the action began; the movement of Moosa Manik (Kuda Moosa) with the ball, full stretch saves by Goal Keeper Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey), fine touches by Mohamed Nizam (Nizambe), interesting act from classic talents including Ali Rasheed (Silaachy), Ali Suzain and Ibrahim Rasheed (Andharey) brought great memories of 90s football.
