The clash between four times champion STO RC and three times champion MPL ended in a 2-2 draw after a final minute equalizer. Elsewhere, Club AVSEC held Club Immigration, also with a last minute equalizer.
The fixture between STO and MPL was the toughest draw of the group stage. It indeed was proven, when the referee blew the whistle to kick off. Mohamed Imran (Immi) of STO took the lead inside the second minute. MPL equalised two minutes after, with a goal from Ismail Aaiz Hameed (Aaiz). He was a threat to STO from the beginning till the end.
STO dominated much of the game; however, MPL threatened not any lesser on counter attacks. Aaiz extended the lead for MPL in the second half, as a result, STO went on looking for more goal scoring options.
The equalizer for STO came as the last action of the game when Ali Shaihaan’s long-range effort was deflected with a slight touch from Ismail Easa (Messi) who was in front of the goalkeeper.
In Group-D action, Club AVSEC held the mighty Immigration with a last minute long-range penalty. Ali Haisam (Chumpu) took the lead for Immigration with a powerful shot to the roof of the goal from a tight angle.
Immigration doubled the lead with a penalty when Haisam was fouled inside the goal area. Ahmed Visam converted the penalty in the ‘Gerrard way’, with a powerful strike.
Naseef Hassan (Peytu) of AVSEC made it 2-1 in the 17th minute. In the second half, Naaif Shafeeq succeeded in penetrating past Tholal Hassan, though he was doing well to protect the goal.
Soon after, Ali Haisam responded well in retaining the lead. However, the long-range penalty awarded to AVSEC was converted by Peytu, which was the last action of the match.
