Can Maldivian take revenge against the champions?

It was a cloudy wet night at the capital Male’ City, approximately one year ago when GMIZL nailed Maldivian in the final of Club Maldives Cup 2018 by 4-1. Can Maldivian flourish in taking an act of revenge over them at the Round-of-16 clash, when they face GMIZL on 26 April 2019?

There have not been many changes on both squads compared to the last time, except a few key changes. Riham Abdul Ghanee (Boby) has replaced Ibrahim Furugan (Fugey) in GMIZL, and Maldivian’s top goal scorer Abdulla Shaffan (Shaaka) is seen in WAMCO’s white shirt.

Mohamed Liyah scored a hat trick in the last year’s final. GMIZL succeeded in converting their first attack of the match in the sixth minute. Liyah then extended their lead single-handed, when he gained the possession from an attack of Maldivian and ran halfway, before scoring a solo goal.

The third one from GMIZL was amazing to watch; inch-perfect ball from their goalkeeper Faathih, wonderful receive from Ziyan who was in Maldivian’s half, finally astonishing from Mohamed Riffath (Rippe) chipping the ball over the Maldivian’s goalkeeper with a single touch.

Simply magical to the crowd who celebrated and nail-biting for them who wondered how that happened in front of their eye.

Afsal scored for Maldivian roughly fifteen yards, to concede only the third goal against Faathih. Liyah completed his remarkable hat trick of the final three minutes from full time when their instrumental man Riffath played one of his many through balls in the tournament to Liyah.
