BML begins providing free sanitary pads to its employees

Bank of Maldives (BML) has joined the #FreeThePad movement by making arrangements at its offices to provide its female employees with free sanitary pads.

In a tweet this Thursday, BML noted that essential necessities such as sanitary pads at the workplace make a huge difference for women.

It announced that sanitary pads will be available for their employees from all BML branches and departments, starting from this Thursday.

BML made the announcement in celebration of the Women’s Day.

The Parliament moved to abolished taxation of maternity and menstruation pads and tampons via an amendment to the GST Act with the unanimous consensus of 73 parliamentarians on November 28, 2018. The legislature – one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s electoral pledges – was ratified on December 3, 2018, and took effect on December 10, 2018.
