A section of the balcony of a residential building located in the Maafannu district of Male’ City collapsed and fell onto the street in the early hours of this Saturday.
Maldives Police Service says the incident took place at approximately 12:50 am.
The section which collapsed is the bottom concrete sheet of the first-floor balcony.
Maldives Police Service says no one was harmed in the incident, but that the incident has been reported to other relevant State agencies to ensure public safety.
The investigation into the incident is being carried out by Maldives Police Service in collaboration with other State agencies.
5 people were injured in the collapse of a balcony in Male’ City three weeks ago. The incident led to the Maldives Association of Construction Industry (MACI) appealing for a city-wide inspection of old residential and office buildings. However, no such inspection has been initiated.
