National Arts Centre’s (NCA) Executive Coordinator Abdullah Muaz has resigned from the post.

Muaz, who is also a famous actor in the Maldives, is the second government head to resign on Monday.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health’s State Minister Hussain Rasheed also announced his resignation.

According to Muaz, he had officially handed over his resignation sometime last month; however, the President’s Office had asked him to stay for longer, so he took a leave, and has been on leave for a month.

He said that he received an official termination letter from the President’s Office immediately after he started calling the president and the ruling government, on different government Viber groups, to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling that came late Thursday

The president has always emphasised the importance of adhering to court’s verdicts, Muaz said. Therefore, he had encouraged the government to “practice what [it] preaches.”

Following the Supreme Court’s order to release several imprisoned political leaders and reinstate the formerly unseated MPs , several members of the government has resigned due to the delay in enforcing the court order.
