Allied ends FSM’s fairy tale

Allied demolishes FSM to bring an end to their fairytale run in the Club Maldives Cup 2018. Besides the high tempo of the match till the referee’s final whistle, Allied scored on five occasions to win comfortably by 5-0.

Ali Liruaam, who has been displaying a constant form in the tournament scored the opener of the night in the 8th minute. That was his fourth goal of the tournament.

FSM got a golden chance to equalize in the 14th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the goal area. However, the goalkeeper Asadhulla Ahmed saved it to deny the FSM’s chance to equalize.

As a result, FSM saw Allied extending their lead just after two minutes from the penalty miss. Abdulla Zufar Mohamed scored for Allied this time to register his fourth goal in the campaign. He also scored a hat-trick against Home Affairs in the group stage.

The top scorer of Allied, Airoon Ahmed Rasheed (Airoon) then extended the lead in the 18th minute to 3-0, before the end of the first half.

FSM displayed a much enthusiastic play in the second half. They created more chances, the attacks were deadly, and it looked as if they would make another comeback to bring extra climax in their fairytale run in the tournament.

However, Allied scored twice in the second half from counter attacks to win comfortably by 5-0. Allied’s fourth goal was scored by Airoon, which was his second of the night. The fifth goal was scored by Ali Sifaq (Kappi) in the 40th minute.

The goalkeeper of Allied, Asadhulla Ahmed was awarded man of the match, for his exceptional performance to stop the FSM from scoring.

“We were confident about our players when we came to the match. But we never thought we would defeat FSM by such a huge goal margin in this stage of the tournament”, Manager of Allied Mohamed Shirneel (Hinni) said speaking to the media after the match.

“Teamwork is our strength and that is the reason why we came so far in the tournament with an average team”, Hinni extended.

Allied will face HDC in the Quarter Final of the tournament.
