Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) claimed that aiding Addu City over the damages caused in the tornado last Wednesday is prof that the government would not differentiate between citizens in providing service.

In a press conference held regarding the help being provided to Addu City, the lawmaker of Kelaa Constituency Ali Arif proclaimed that the government is providing aid for the citizens post haste.

He stressed that the support being provided to Addu City in spite of the atoll’s support for main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), as proven by the opposition gaining full majority of Addu’s City Council in the Local Council Election, is testimony that the government does not discriminate among citizens.

Secretary General of PPM Abdulla Khaleel added that the City Council is ineligible to aid the citizen over the damages but the government wishes to work alongside the council. He stressed that this also proves that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would like to work along with the difference of opinions.
