Club WAMCO advanced to the final of Club Maldives Cup for the first time in their history, after a highly anticipated semifinal clash against Club Immigration last night.
Abdulla Shaffan (Shaaka) of WAMCO scored a hat trick on their way to the dreamland, when they defeated Immigration 5-4, to keep one hand on the trophy.
A perfect story of Immigration on the making was brought to an end, before it was meant to be, with dramatic twists and turns in the closing minutes of the semifinal.
Shaffan scored the opener of the match when Ibrahim Mubeen Ahmed Rasheed (Mukki) created the assist from a wonderful piece of skill by Ibrahim Aswadh (Gabey), who made the key pass of the play.
Immigration equalized from a free kick. Cheers to Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Ibbe) who placed the ball to the far corner, when Ahmed Ashfan played it to him.
However, Shaffaan took back the lead for WAMCO before halftime, placing it past the goalkeeper of Immigration, Tholal Hassan, after running from the left flank.
Immigration equalized a few minutes after the restart, again with a goal from Mahudhee. It was another combination of Ashfan and Mahudhee from a free kick, to make it 2-2.
Shaffan completed his hat trick and made it 3-2 to WAMCO, when he gained possession from a lazy pass. This scoreline remained for a long time and it held the nerve of the supporters, as there were chances created on both ends.
Immigration’s golden chance to equalize for the third time in the match was missed by Ashfan, as he failed to convert from the penalty spot. Goalkeeper Zaidhaan Ahmed of WAMCO saved it to hold back their lead.
As a result, WAMCO extended their lead with a goal from Mubeen. Shaffan was then denied by the crossbar from a penalty. At the other end, Mahudhee failed to convert another penalty and missed the chance to get closer to an equalizer.
Immigration then scored two goals in two minutes to come back into the game. Ahmed Visam first assisted Ali Haisam to score Immigration’s third goal, and then Visam did it himself to equalize from a penalty.
With less than a minute from the equalizer, WAMCO did it again, this time from a goal by Aswadh, to book their place in the final after an exciting hour of futsal.
WAMCO will face United BML in the final and it will probably be a clash between a King and a Titan.
